# The Wireless Telegraphy (Licence Charges) (Amendment) Regulations 1988, Note: Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations, which amend the Wireless Telegraphy (Licence Charges) Regulations 1986 (“the principal Regulations”), increase the fees payable on the issue and renewal of most wireless telegraphy licences granted under section 1 of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949.
Regulation 3 re-enacts Part 1 of the Schedule to the principal Regulations with amendments. In addition to drafting amendments such as the deletion of the unused second column of Part 1 of the Schedule effected by regulations 5 and 6, it makes the following changes of substance. The 59 licence types listed in the original Schedule to the principal Regulations have been reduced in number by the creation of some new, composite licences and the exemption of some other wireless telegraphy apparatus from licensing. Those fees which are fixed now range between £10 and £100,000. Such fees are now shown in the second column of Part 1 of the Schedule against the licences concerned. Those fees having a variable element are shown also against the appropriate licence in the third column and regulation 7 alters the points of charge used in computing such variable element.
All fees are to paid at the intervals indicated in the fourth and fifth columns of Part 1 of the Schedule.
