# The Young Offender Institution Rules 2000, Article 50: Use of force


(1) An officer in dealing with an inmate shall not use force unnecessarily and, when the application of force to an inmate is necessary, no more force than is necessary shall be used.
(2) No officer shall act deliberately in a manner calculated to provoke an inmate.
