CHANGES IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS

Made 29th April 2002

Coming into force 1st May 2002

Whereas the National Assembly for Wales in exercise of the powers given to the Secretary of State by sections 58(2) and 67(4) and (5) of the Local Government Act 1972f1, which are now vested in the National Assembly for Wales so far as exercisable in Walesf2, made the Bridgend (Cynffig, Cornelly and Pyle Communities)(Electoral Changes) Order 2002;

now the National Assembly for Wales makes the following Order to effect changes to certain provisions in that earlier order with regard to the date of the abolition of the community of Cynffig and the holding of elections for the new community councils of Cornelly and Pyle.

1Name and commencement

(1)

The name of this Order is the Bridgend (Cynffig, Cornelly and Pyle Communities)(Electoral Changes)(Amendment) Order 2002.

(2)

This Order shall come into force on 1st May 2002.

2Amendment to the Bridgend (Cynffig, Cornelly and Pyle Communities)(Electoral Changes) Order 2002

(1)

The Bridgend (Cynffig, Cornelly and Pyle Communities)(Electoral Changes) Order 2002 shall be amended as follows.

In article 2, the words “2nd May” shall be replaced by “20th June”.

(3)

In paragraph (1) of Article 4, the words “6th May” shall be replaced by “24th June”.

Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Order)

The National Assembly for Wales made the Bridgend (Cynffig, Cornelly and Pyle Communities)(Electoral Changes) Order 2002 on the 28th March 2002 to abolish the community of Cynffig and create two new communities of Cornelly and Pyle. That Order was made under sections 58(2) and 67(4) and (5) of the Local Government Act 1972.

This Order, which amends that order, is made under the same powers and changes the date of the abolition of the community of Cynffig from 2nd May to 20th June 2002. The elections for the new community councils of Cornelly and Pyle will be held on 20th June as a consequence of the making of this Order. The members of those new councils shall take office on 24th June 2002.
