Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations make amendments to the Gambling Act 2005 (Operating Licence Conditions) Regulations 2007 (S.I. 2007/2257) (“the 2007 Regulations”) to specify a condition which attaches to all remote casino operating licences issued under Part 5 of the Gambling Act 2005 (c. 19).
Regulation 2 of these Regulations amends the 2007 Regulations to insert regulations 5 to 7 into the 2007 Regulations.
New regulation 5 attaches a condition to remote casino operating licences in relation to online slots games. The condition specifies maximum amounts which may be staked by an individual in relation to any game cycle for online slots games. The maximum amounts vary according to the age of the individual. The condition is subject to a transitional provision in new regulation 6.
New regulation 6 attaches a condition which applies for a transitional period of six weeks from the day on which these Regulations come into force and ceases to apply at the end of that six week period. The condition in new regulation 5 does not apply during this six week period.
New regulation 7 requires the Secretary of State to carry out a review of the condition in new regulation 5 and to publish a report setting out the conclusions of the review. The first report must be published before the end of 5 years beginning with the day on which these Regulations come into force and subsequent reports must be published at intervals not exceeding 5 years.
