Explanatory note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the maximum speed limit on roads which are not motorways for goods vehicles (known as HGVs) which have a maximum laden weight, or, if drawing a trailer, aggregate maximum laden weight, exceeding 7.5 tonnes.

Regulation 2(2) amends Part 1 of schedule 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for HGVs being driven in Scotland:

  • by substituting a maximum speed limit of 60 mph for the current limit of 50mph on dual carriageway roads,

  • by substituting a maximum speed limit of 50mph for the current limit of 40mph on other roads.

Regulation 2(3) removes an existing amendment to the table in Part 1 of schedule 6 which had effect only in relation to certain specified lengths of road. Regulation 3 revokes the S.S.I. which made that amendment.
