1Citation, commencement and interpretation
This Order may be cited as the Education (Grammar School Designation) (Amendment) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 1st September 1999.
In this Order “the designation order” means the Education (Grammar School Designation) Order 1998f1.
2Designation of grammar school
The school to be established on 1st September 1999 as a voluntary controlled school and to be known as Dr Challoner’s High School (being a school to be established in substitution for a county school of the same name which is to be discontinued on that date) is designated as a grammar school for the purposes of Chapter II of Part III of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
Accordingly the Schedule to the designation order shall be amended by adding after “Dr Challoner’s High School” (opposite “Buckinghamshire” in the left hand column) the words “(established as a voluntary controlled school on 1st September 1999)”.
3Further amendment of designation order
The Schedule to the designation order shall also be amended by omitting “Bristol” from the left hand column and “Cotham Grammar School” and “Fairfield Grammar School” from the right hand column.

Explanatory note
(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order designates a school to be established on 1st September and to be known as Dr Challoner’s High School as a grammar school for the purposes of Chapter II of Part III of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. The school is to be established as a voluntary controlled school in substitution for a county school of the same name.
The order also amends the Education (Grammar School Designation) Order 1998 by omitting two schools in Bristol. Proposals for the two schools in Bristol to cease to have selective admission arrangements were published by the local education authority under section 35 of the Education Act 1996 and have been determined to be implemented under section 38 of that Act.
