Division 8 Formula to calculate the CO2 savings

United Kingdom

Original text. Later amendments are not shown.

The CO2 savings are to be calculated with the following formula:

Formula (9)
  • C CO 2 = ΔΡ m × V Pe × CF ∕ v
  • Where:

    CCO2
  • CO2 savings (g CO2/km);

  • ΔΡm
  • Accountable share of saved mechanical power as per formula (8) (W);

  • VPe
  • Willans’ factors (l/kWh);

  • CF
  • Conversion factors (g CO2/l)

  • v
  • mean driving speed of the NEDC (km/h)

  • For the Willans’ factors the data in table 1 is to be used:

    Table 1

    Willans’ factors

    Type of engineConsumption of effective power VPe[l/kWh]
    Petrol (VPe-P)0,264
    Petro Turbo0,28
    Diesel (VPe-D)0,22

    For the conversion factors the data in table 2 is to be used:

    Table 2

    Conversion factors

    Type of fuelConversion factor (l/100 km) → (g CO2/km)[100 g/l]
    Petrol23,3 (= 2 330 g CO2/l)
    Petro Turbo23,3 (= 2 330 g CO2/l)
    Diesel26,4 (= 2 640 g CO2/l)

    The mean driving speed of the NEDC is: v = 33,58 km/h
