Article 2 DefinitionsF1

For the purposes of this Directive, the definitions laid down in Article 2 of Directive 2000/60/EC and in Article 2 of Commission Directive 2009/90/EC of 31 July 2009 laying down, pursuant to Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, technical specifications for chemical analysis and monitoring of water status ^f1 shall apply.

In addition, the following definitions shall apply:

1. (1)

   ‘ matrix ‘ means a compartment of the aquatic environment, namely water, sediment or biota;

2. (2)

   ‘ biota taxon ’ means a particular aquatic taxon within the taxonomic rank ‘ sub-phylum ’ , ‘ class ’ or their equivalent.
