Article 16 Decision on protection

On the basis of the information available to the F1Secretary of State upon the completion of the objection procedure referred to in Article 15, the Secretary of State shallF2... either confer protection on the geographical indication which meets the conditions laid down in this Chapter and is compatible with F3F4assimilated law by approving the application, or reject the application where those conditions are not met. F5...

F6After making a decision under the first paragraph, the Secretary of State must publish in such manner as appears appropriate to the Secretary of State from time to time:

(a)

a notice:

(i)

informing the applicant and the public of the decision made in relation to the application and the reasons for that decision, and

(ii)

providing information about the right to appeal under Article 25a against that decision and the period within which an appeal may be made, and

(b)

where the application is approved, a copy of the approved product specification.
