F3Subject to paragraph (2B), a sergeant is qualified for promotion to the rank of inspector if he —
has obtained a pass in the qualifying assessment for promotion to the rank of inspector, and
has completed 2 years' service F4, or in the case of a sergeant participating in the HPD scheme, 1 year’s service, in the rank of sergeant.
A constable participating in the FT Programme is qualified for promotion to the rank of sergeant if he has obtained a pass in the qualifying assessment for promotion to the rank of sergeant.
A sergeant participating in the FT Programme is qualified for promotion to the rank of inspector if he has obtained a pass in the qualifying assessment for promotion to the rank of inspector (including where part of that pass was obtained whilst the sergeant held the rank of constable, in accordance with paragraph 5(2A) of Schedule 1).
Previous service in —
a Scottish force,
the Royal Ulster Constabulary,
the Isle of Man Constabulary, or
the British Airports Authority Constabulary if the service terminated with transfer to a police force by an order under section 30 of the Aviation Security Act 1982f1,
counts for the purposes of paragraph (1)(b), and if it constituted probationary service in the force or constabulary in question, for the purposes of paragraph (1)(c), and such service in the rank of sergeant counts for the purposes of paragraph (2)(b).
Previous service in —
the Port of Tilbury Constabulary,
the Port of Liverpool Constabulary,
the States of Jersey Police,
the Royal Parks Constabulary,
the Ministry of Defence Police,
the British Transport Police, or
the Dover Harbour Board Police,
which constituted probationary service in the body in question counts for the purposes of paragraph (1)(c).
Subject to paragraph (6), a person who, on or after 1st August 1996, has passed the qualifying assessment to the rank in question prescribed by Scottish promotion regulations is qualified —
for promotion to the rank of sergeant if he has completed —
not less than one year’s service in that rank in a Scottish force, and
his period of probation in that rank;
for promotion in the rank of inspector if he has completed one year’s service in that rank in a Scottish force.
Service in a rank on temporary promotion to it does not count for the purposes of paragraph (5).
In paragraphs F6(1), (2), (2A) and (2B) “qualifying assessment” means —
an examination held in accordance with Schedule 1;
an examination recognised under Schedule 2.
Schedule 1 (qualifying assessments) shall have effect.
Schedule 2 (recognition of certain promotion examinations) shall have effect.
