Article 2 Interpretation

“civil service” means the civil service of Northern Ireland;

“district council” means a district council established under the Local Government Act (Northern Ireland) 1972 1972 c.9;

“government department” means a department of the Government of Northern Ireland;

“local authority F1” means—

1. (a)

   before the date of the first coming into office of members of district councils, the council of a county, a county or other borough, or an urban or rural district, a new town commission, the Belfast City and District Water Commissioners or the Northern Ireland Local Government Officers' Superannuation Committee;

2. (b)

   on and after that date but before [F2 1st October 1973], any authority such as is mentioned in paragraph ( a) or a district council;

3. (c)

   on and after [ 1st October 1973], a district council, a new town commission, or the Northern Ireland Local Government Officers' Superannuation Committee;

“the Ministry” means the Ministry of Finance;

“statutory provision” has the meaning assigned to it by section 1( f) of the Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 1954 c.33;

“transferred provision” has the meaning assigned to it by section 1( g) of the Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954.
