Explanatory note

This Order, which is made under the European Communities Act 1972,amends the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 for the purpose of implementingCouncil Directive 90/658/EECf1which amends Council Directive 78/1026/EECf2 relating to the right of establishment of veterinarysurgeons and their freedom to provide veterinary services.
Following German unification, holders of German Democratic Republicveterinary qualifications will be able to practise in the United Kingdomprovided they can meet specified conditions.
