Regulation 5 Period of probation for constable promoted to sergeantI1
England and Wales
Subject to paragraph (2), a member of a police force F1... who —
is promoted to, or
is qualified by virtue of regulation 3(5) for promotion to, and has been appointed to the force F2... in, the rank of sergeant shall be on probation in that rank for a period of one year or for such longer period as the chief officer of police F3... may determine in the circumstances of the particular case.
If the chief officer of police F4... considers that a person who is on probation in the rank of sergeant is unlikely to perform the duties of that rank satisfactorily he may reduce him to the rank of constable.
