Regulation 81 Long courses loan

(1)

A F1... 2009 F2, 2012 or 2016 cohort student qualifies for a long courses loan in connection with the student's attendance on a designated course if the student—

(a)

qualifies for a loan for living costs under this Part;

(b)

is required to attend the course for a period exceeding 30 weeks and 3 days in an academic year; F3...

(c)

is not a student with reduced F4entitlement; and

F5(d)

is not a 2016 cohort student who meets the conditions set out in regulation 71(1)(i).

(2)

The maximum amount of the long courses loan is $X + Y$ where—

X is calculated in accordance with paragraph (3),
Y is calculated in accordance with paragraph (4);

(3)

Where a F6... 2009 F7, 2012 or 2016 cohort student is required to attend a course for a period exceeding 30 weeks and 3 days in an academic year, the number of weeks or part weeks of attendance in the academic year beyond 30 weeks and 3 days is multiplied by the relevant amount in paragraph (5);

(4)

Where a F8... 2009 F9, 2012 or 2016 cohort student attends a course for a period of not less than 45 weeks in any continuous period of 52 weeks, the total number of weeks in the 52-week period during which the student does not attend is multiplied by the relevant amount in paragraph (5);

(5)

The amount is—

(a)

for a student in category A, F10£77;

(b)

for a student in category B, F11£149;

(c)

for a student in category C, F12£161;

(d)

for a student in category D, F13£116.

F14Subject to paragraph 6A, a deduction from the amount of long courses loan calculated in accordance with this regulation may be made in accordance with Part 8.

F15(6A)

Paragraph (6) does not apply in relation to a long courses loan for an eligible care leaver.

F16For the purposes of calculating the maximum amount of the long courses loan, a student’s attendance on a pre-registration course or a postgraduate pre-registration course includes any time the student is required to spend, as part of that course, undertaking clinical training at a hospital or other premises.
